Perkins shows off at scrimmage
The Jacketsonline staff went to check out running back Charles Perkins at the Collins Hill High School spring game on Friday night and he surely didn't disappoint. Perkins came out of the gates running hard as his numbers indicated. On the night, he had six carries for 90 yards including a run of 60 yards that left the crowd in awe.
Perkins certainly looked the part standing out there at a stout 6-foot, 205 pounds. He works hard in the weight room to get to be able to run for power and show off his blazing 4.44 speed.
"I bench press 305, Squat 415, and power clean 285 in the weight room," Perkins said.
The Georgia Tech commit knows he made the right choice when he decided on a school back in early February.
"I think they're a program on the rise and the Coaching staff is great," he said. "I did some research on their history and they have won everywhere they went. Most of all, the academics is top notch."
Perkins talks about his relationship with the Georgia Tech coaching staff and who is still pursuing him on a regular basis.
"Assistant Coach Jeff Monken was my main recruiter so I talk to him a lot," Perkins said. "I talk to head coach Paul Johnson a lot too, he actually called me last week and we got to talk for a little bit."
Schools are still persistent in trying to lure this big back to their schools.
"Georgia Tech, Wake Forest, Vanderbilt, Virginia Tech, Kentucky, and Central Florida have all been out to see me during spring practice," Perkins said. "I've talked to most of them throughout spring practice and they tell me they're still going to continue to recruit me."
Perkins has not planned any other trips or visits because he is satisfied with his school selection.
"There wasn't any reason to continue to look at other schools because Tech was the place for me. I know all schools are going to have something good about them, but Tech was #1."
On June 13th, Georgia Tech is holding their Elite Camp and Perkins talks about his summer plans, is he going to be there?
"Right now I'm going to the Georgia Tech camp on the 13th and that's about it," he said. "I might go to some other camps, mostly team camps, passing camps."
Perkins looks to improve on his junior campaign where he rushed for 1,300 yards, 100 receiving yards, and 13 touchdowns by picking up his production and carries every game.
"I want to get 2,000 yards rushing, 200-300 yards receiving, and 30 touchdowns," Perkins added. "I really think our team can go 10-0 during the regular season next year. We return 9 starters on offense, so we should be pretty good."
Jacketsonline will most definitely keep in touch with Charles throughout the summer and will be out to catch some of his senior year at Collins Hill High School.
