Smith has Rams in top three
Edmond (OK) North cornerback Xavier Smith doesn't like being jerked around, which is why he thoroughly enjoys the recruiting jobs being done by his three top schools-all of them have been very straight forward with what they want. It's something that could probably be appreciated by any high school athlete when looking to make the jump to the college level.
While no one is out of the picture, Smith currently lists his top three schools as Colorado State, TCU and Missouri, who just offered him after he attended one of their camps last week.
"Yea, I actually picked up a scholarship from Missouri while I was there," Smith said. "I've been talking to Coach Henson and I'm going to take a visit sometime between July 20th and the 22nd."
The offer from Missouri gives him a total of six, but the Rams, Horned Frogs and Tigers are the only ones so far he has been trying to setup visits at. He will hit Fort Worth during their one-day camp on July 17th and will hopefully round out his busy month with a camp at CSU on July 25th.
"I'm actually trying to get a hold of Coach (Greg) Peterson so I can take a visit there on July 25th because that's when they have their second camp. I would do some footwork drills while I was there, they said they wouldn't need to see me do everything, but I'd workout and then meet the coaches."
Smith originally planned to visit Colorado State during June, but was unable to due to other camps he attended.
According to the 5-foot-11, 180 pound Oklahoma native, he'll want to check out the facilities at all three places he plans on visiting, much of that is due to what he saw when he visited Oklahoma State. He is also concerned about his location on the depth chart.
"I want to check out the facilities, I was really impressed with (Oklahoma State's)," said the Oklahoma City area prospect. "I also want to see about their depth. It's not so much a matter of being able to play right away, it's more that I want to know how long I would be sitting if I don't play as a freshman."
While only one of his top three schools play in a BCS conference, Smith was assuring when he said that the fact Missouri was in the Big Twelve doesn't give them any more weight.
"I like the Big Twelve, but the conference at the end of the day won't come down to it. It's going to be a matter of where I feel at home because that's where I'm going to be for the next four years
Something I want when visiting will be to talk to the players and ask them the things their doing and such. It's really going to be the opinions from them and how they feel on the field because those are the guys that I'm going to be around."
Smith says he plans on making his decision before the Edmond North Huskies start their season against cross-town rival Edmond Santa Fe on September 5th in an even known as "Edlam."
