Lunch with Neuheisel - Part III
In part three Coach Rick Neuheisel is asked about recruiting philosophy and what it will be a good year for the season of 2009 would be in his estimation. Neuheisel was even asked about the technology of twitter and more. Enjoy!
Recruiting wise, do you have a bit of philosophy where you don't necessarily want to give out a lot of scholarships now so you can see what is happening with the season?
Neuheisel: "I think, too early is a bad formula. That doesn't mean we're not recruiting. We're out there recruiting and we know who are the surefire guys, at least who we believe, are surefire guys. Those guys we will take a commitment from anytime, but rarely do those guys commit.
"The surefire guys usually want a little more time, because they have the luxury of it. They can wait. That's not to say we're not in trying to get commitments, we are, I just don't necessarily have to be in a hurry.
"You go back and look at programs that have fallen on hard times. You can go back and look how many were recruiting ranked in the top five or 10 in the early recruiting rankings and you'll see there were a lot of misses.
"Recruiting is not so much, who you don't get, but who you get that can't deliver, because they are there for awhile and you just have to be careful about whom you are really going with.
"Suffice to say, you have to be thorough in your evaluations."
