Practice Insider: On the job
This isn't Jeremy Bates' first time. He's strolled down the tunnel and onto the field numerous times, but Saturday will be the first time Bates has the Trojans' offensive fate on his play sheet and in his head.
The past two Trojan coaches to call plays polarized the fan base, whether it was Lane Kiffin or Steve Sarkisian.
Bates isn't scared. He's blocking out everything.
"This is our profession. This is what I do for a living. This isn't my first year coaching football," Bates said. "We're going to go in and study on a daily basis. We've been working hard since last spring. This is our job.
"We're going into it looking at it like that, and we're going to be focused."
