Tulsa players get national recognition
The preseason accolades are racking up for University of Tulsa football players. As the watch lists for different 2011 trophies and awards are released, it seems another Golden Hurricane gets recognized. Although with 18 returning starters, it really isn't that big of a surprise.
University of Tulsa junior center Trent Dupy was one of 42 players named to the Rimington Trophy Watch List for the 2011 season, an award given to the nation's top offensive center.
Dupy (6-2, 285) has started at center since his true freshman season with 23 career starting assignments, including all 13 games in 2010. He graded over 80-perent in 10 contests last year. Dupy played 1,006 snaps in 2010. As a true freshman in 2009, Dupy started 10 contests and was named to the Conference USA all-freshman team.
Yesterday, Tulsa safety Marco Nelson was named to the watch list for the Jim Thorpe Award, which is given to the nation's top defensive back. Nelson (6-0, 192) helped the Golden Hurricane with 86 tackles and six interceptions last season, earning First-Team All-Conference USA and C-USA All-Freshman team accolades.
