Wednesday Night Football Notes
Tuesday's scrimmage for all intents and purposes wrapped up fall camp for the Vols, and things will start to feel like a game week from here on out. On Wednesday the squad held a brief, indoor walk-through to cover lots of different game-situations and to insure that everyone knew where to be according to different special teams and substitution patterns.
After a physical camp, Fulmer said the short day was good for a team that is battling heavy legs and the heat.
"Today was exactly what we needed, a mental day, not so physical for us. It let them get their legs back, very much like what we did last year. We went through all the kicking situations, sideline management, how to use our timeouts, and just all the game situations that can come up," Fulmer said of Wednesday's work.
"We spent a little bit of time at the end working individually to correct some things from the scrimmage. It was a good day for us and they should feel good about getting ready for Cal starting tomorrow."
Though it was a scaled back practice, it was the first chance for the offense to begin to get a feel for what it will be like to replace senior tight end Brad Cottam who was injured in Tuesday's scrimmage.
