Jewel ready to shine
With the starting job at running back wide open for the Iowa Hawkeyes this year, incoming freshman Jewel Hampton hopes it is his turn to shine. The 5-foot-9 195-pound Indianapolis native has been working hard getting ready for his first year on campus. Hampton talks about when he will arrive in Iowa City, his upcoming freshman year, and much more.
Q: When do you get out of school?
HAMPTON: May 23rd.
Q: How has it gone finishing things up?
HAMPTON: Everything's been going alright. I'm just trying to finish up the year in good standing.
Q: When are you headed to Iowa?
HAMPTON: June 1st.
Q: What went into the decision to head there right away?
HAMPTON: I'm just trying to get in there and compete for the starting job and get ready for camp.
Q: What are your thoughts on moving away from home kind of for the first time?
HAMPTON: I'm kind of looking forward to it because I'm an independent person and I'm ready to be on my own. I'm going to miss my family and all, but it's going to be a good experience for me.
Q: What are you looking forward to in your first year?
HAMPTON: What I'm looking forward to is just coming in and competing, and trying to earn the starting job.
