July 27, 2011Shavodrick Beaver has decided to transfer. Tulsa made the announcement this afternoon after Beaver informed Tulsa head football coach Bill Blankenship of his decision. Beaver expects to enroll and play football at Midwestern State in his hometown of Wichita Falls, Texas.
Beaver, a 6'3 junior, has played in 15 games over two seasons for the Golden Hurricane and rushed for 165 yards and one touchdown, while passing for 68 passing yards. He came to Tulsa in January 2009 and saw playing time as a true freshman that year.
Beaver had a solid showing in spring practice and was sitting No. 2 on the depth chart this summer. He was scheduled to sit out the upcoming season at Tulsa as an academic red-shirt, according to the University release.
"We wish Shavodrick the very best in his future endeavors," said Blankenship. "He is a fine young man, and we hope that he has a good career at Midwestern State while pursuing his degree."
Beaver came to Tulsa from Wichita Falls Rider High School where he was a 4-star recruit and one of the top dual-threat quarterbacks in the nation as a prep senior in 2008.
