March 24, 2013Plant high school (Florida) inside linebacker Andrew Beck made a special visit to SMU on Sunday to tour the facilities. This was his last stop on his tour of Texas that he took over weekend. Beck attended Texas on Friday, Baylor on Saturday and SMU on Sunday.
"My SMU trip was real nice the campus was very beautiful," said Beck. "That was the first thing my dad and I said at the end of the trip."
While at SMU, Beck got to take a look around the campus with SMU defensive coordinator Tom Mason as his tour guide.
"I was very grateful for coach Mason to come out on a Sunday and show me around SMU. He was able to answer all of our questions about the academics."
With three more visits in the books for Beck, he still has quite a few more programs to look at. The 6-foot-3, 227-pound prospect plans to see several other schools around the country.
"I am going to Florida State and Stanford next weekend, then I am going to Georgia and Georgia Tech the weekend after. All of those schools except Georgia have offered."
One of the main reasons Beck took the time to travel to Dallas was because SMU was one of the first schools to contact him.
"Coach Jones contacted me a while back and was one of the first schools to offer me. Coach Jones seems like a real nice guy and very knowledgeable about football. Since then, I mainly talk to coach Morrison at SMU."
Beck will be looking for a school that has the ability to provide to him three things, but he also lists one major factor in recruits eyes won't matter to him.
"Academics will be big, I also want a school that has nice facilities and campus and some coaches that can help me go pro. I am not really interested in conference prestige. I don't think it really matters in the NFL if a kid goes to an ACC, Big 12, SEC, or Big East school."
At the end of the visit to SMU, Beck and his father were both happy that they were able to hit the Hilltop.
"I enjoyed my time at SMU and thankful that coach Mason was able to meet us on a Sunday, SMU may not have the big name like the other schools but the campus was one of the most beautiful campuses I have seen so far in my visits."
