February 20, 2006Westlake Village (Calif.) Oaks Christian safety/receiver Marshall Jones some times gets overlooked because of the play of his teammates. But the good news is that the college coaches know a ton about him and his play already has him ranked as one of the top 100 juniors in the nation by Rivals.com.
Jones, who is 6-foot and 185 pounds, already has a slew of offers, and even though it's February a few teams do tend to stand out.
"The teams I'm receiving mail from that I'm most interested in are Michigan, Tennessee and USC," Jones said. "That's about it, those are the main ones right now. I have an offer from Michigan and Tennessee, but haven't gotten one from USC yet."
Jones also already has offers from Arizona, LSU, Ole Miss and Oregon State. Jones recently took in a Junior Day event at Tennessee and admits he has always had a thing for the Wolverines.
"I like Tennessee because I went to their campus and got to meet their coaches already," Jones said. "They have really great facilities there. With Michigan, I've just always liked them. I moved to California when I was in sixth grade, I grew up in Chicago, so I'm a Midwest guy. I've followed them ever since I was little."
Jones also hopes an offer from USC isn't too far down the road.
"I feel like they will offer me - maybe not any time soon, but probably some time during my senior year or something," Jones said.
He's already thinking about what will be important for him when the time to make a decision comes.
"I want to go somewhere I can play early," he said. "I want to compete, but I want to play early. I want to go in and compete for a spot, but I don't want to go somewhere that has a ton of players at my position. That will play big into my decision.
"I don't know what I'm going to do right now. I'm probably going to take all my visits and wait until the end of the football season to make my decision. I'm not going to rush into it. I'll just see where I feel most comfortable and that's the place I'll end up at."
Jones only has plans to attend camp at USC this summer.
