O'Reilly names a leader

Pope offensive lineman Thomas O'Reilly may have grown up a Georgia Bulldogs fan, but Georgia Tech head coach Paul Johnson and his coaching staff have really impressed the Marietta native and after visiting campus again this past Sunday, O'Reilly has a clear leader.

"Georgia Tech is on top right now. I have spent the most time there getting to know the staff and the campus and they have been very honest throughout the whole process," O'Reilly said.

O'Reilly brought his family including his grandparents down to the Tech campus on Sunday where he had a sit down with Coach Johnson.

"On Sunday I met with Coach Johnson for the first time and I had my whole family there including my grandparents and we toured all the facilities and met with the coaches. It was my first time really talking with Coach Johnson and I was really impressed with how he does not sugar coat anything and tells you how he really feels."

So far for the 2011 class, O'Reilly has the only scholarship offer from Georgia Tech on the offensive line and that fact really hammered home one of the points Coach Johnson made during their meeting.

"Coach Johnson told me I am the top guy on their list and it is nice to know it is actually true and he is not just saying that. I am the only guy they have offered on the offensive line and that was really great to hear that from him."

Pope runs a similar offense to Georgia Tech, O'Reilly feels like it would be an easy transition for him, and he is very comfortable with the style of blocking the Jackets use.

"Georgia Tech is definitely a good fit for me and we run an offense that is very close with the same type of blocking schemes," he said.

This weekend, O'Reilly will be in Athens for the Georgia-Auburn game and then he plans to catch the Georgia Tech-Georgia game at Bobby Dodd in three weeks. O'Reilly was in Alabama for the LSU game this past weekend.

"I am going to UGA this weekend and they are number two on my list right now," he said. "I do talk to Georgia Assistant Coach Stacy Searels a lot and I will be interested to see how the visit goes. I am really looking forward to the Georgia Tech-Georgia game."
