Mountaineers can't overcome deficit

Despite his 14th straight game in double figures, Kevin Jones could not bring his Mountaineers back at Joyce Center in South Bend, Ind., against Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish nicked WVU 70-68 for the 10th straight time in the historic field house.

West Virginia lost its first game in four Big East tries. The 8th-ranked Mountaineers are 12-2, 3-1. Unranked Notre Dame improved to 14-3, 3-1

Jones' leadership, scoring and rebounding and Joe Mazzulla's floor game in the second half was key as West Virginia pulled within 11 at the 17-minute mark. They shot in four of seven field goal attempts in the frame. They had outscored Notre Dame 15-6.
