Maryland LB talks Syracuse offer

DeMatha high school in Hyattsville, Maryland is one of the most historic high schools in the country when it comes to athletics. Syracuse has looked at the school in the past and they are again looking at the school this year.

Right now the Orange have their eyes set on outside linebacker Darien Harris after a solid visit to the Syracuse football camp last summer.

"They offered last summer when I did their summer camp," Harris said. "I was really excited that I was getting my first offer and new that it was a step in the right direction for my recruiting process.

"I might go back for the summer camp again. That all depends on if they want me too or not."

Harris, 6-foot-2, 225 pounds enjoyed working out for the Orange coaches at the camp as well as many other items that he saw on the campus.

"The coaching staff was really energetic and into making better players. The facilities were nice especially the weight room and The Carrier Dome was huge."

Ryan Bartholomew is a current member of the Syracuse Orange football team who also spent his high school career at DeMatha and he has talked with Harris about coming to Syracuse.

"He said it would be nice to see another player from DeMatha in a Syracuse uniform."

A position has not been talked about with the Orange, but he has one that he would like to play.

"They are looking at me for either outside linebacker or strong safety," Harris stated. "Safety has always been my favorite position so that is what I'll be aiming to play in college."

After the visit to Syracuse and talking with someone who has played at the same high school and then went to Syracuse Harris likes what he has come to know about the Big East school.

"I like Syracuse as a whole both their academics and athletics. I know that they have a very good program that puts in 100 percent effort all the time on and off the field."

Other than Syracuse there are also a few other schools that are showing interest in the prospect and he has even made some visits to those schools.

"I came back from Wake Forest's junior day a couple weekends ago, Maryland's, and visited Rutgers for a showcase this past weekend. I'll also be going up to Rutgers again this weekend for a 7-on- 7 tournament."

As a junior Harris totaled 67 tackles along with seven sacks.
