Penn State offers in-state DE

Deion Barnes, a 6-foot-5, 220-pound defensive end from Philadelphia (Pa.) Northeast, is quietly picking up scholarship offers, and his latest is a big one.

On Tuesday the junior from eastern Pennsylvania received some good news from a school that commands a lot of respect on the college football scene.

Penn State has now extended an offer to the talented pass rusher.

"Yes sir, it's true," Barnes confirmed to Rivals.com late Tuesday afternoon. "I found out today. My coach gave me the letter. It came as a surprise. I'm really excited about it."

Barnes has not visited Penn State yet but he said he hopes to do so within the next few weeks. At the latest he will be there by August, he noted.

While Penn State figures to be a major player in Barnes' recruitment it's hardly a one-horse race. In fact, when asked if he has any favorites he mentioned one school outside the region before clarifying that he is still interested in everyone.

"I don't really have any favorites but I do like South Carolina a lot," Barnes said. "Actually I like everybody that's talking to me."

Barnes also has an offer from Pitt. He said he sees himself waiting things out for a while and taking his official visits in the fall before he makes his decision.

He said he has been receiving a lot of attention from Rutgers, Florida and Georgia as well. Barnes plans on attending Michigan's spring game.
