Bumphis looking for big things with the Bulldogs
Chad Bumphis had a remarkable freshman season for Mississippi State.
The rookie receiver totaled 876 all-purpose yards and five touchdowns en route to Freshman All-SEC honors. But as good as everything went in his first year, Bumphis wants to be even better as a sophomore.
"I've just got to keep working hard and don't get content where I am," Bumphis said. "I just have to listen to the coaches and take the coaching and continue to work. There is so much more things I want to work on. I want to be a whole lot better. I'm just still learning and still trying to get better."
While Bumphis seemed to excel in nearly every aspect of his game last year there was one visible in particular that needed more work. Bumphis vows to focus on being a better blocker next season, which was something new to him after a standout prep career at Tupelo (Miss.).
"In high school if I was on the field, I was getting the ball," Bumphis said. "There wasn't a whole lot of blocking going on. After seeing the importance of it, it's something that I really want to work on."
Bumphis caught 32 passes for 375 yards and four touchdowns, rushed six times for 73 yards and another score as well as completing 1-of-2 passing for five yards. He also returned five punts for 45 yards and 16 kickoffs for 383 yards.
