OL Schlachter gives the latest
One of the top offensive linemen Michigan for the class of 2011 is Jalen Schlachter of Corunna High School. SpartanMag.com spoke with 6-foot-6, 285-pound prospect and got the latest on his recruitment.
Schlachter recently made a trip out to Madison to check out the Wisconsin Badgers and he gave us some details about his trip
"It was very nice out there, he said. The campus is beautiful and the facilities are great. I am not sure though that I can see myself going that far away. I would like to play a bit closer than that."
Closer to home would certainly include Michigan State and Schlachter has been to East Lansing several times over the past few months.
"I have been up to Michigan State a few times this spring to see practices. I also will be there this coming weekend for the spring game."
The rivals.com database indicates that Schlachter has been officially offered by Michigan State. However, he gave us some details about where he stands with Michigan State.
"I have not been officially offered by Michigan State. I speak with Coach Roushar a lot and he has told me that I have a very good chance of being offered soon. I feel confident that I will get offered. I just sent my updated highlight film to Coach Roushar so I am going to talk with him this week about what he likes and what I should work on."
If Michigan State offers do you think you would commit.
"Yes, If Michigan State offers I am pretty sure I m going to accept. I am also talking witch Central Michigan too. I have been up to their practice as well."
As SpartanMag.com indicated earlier this winter, Schlachter suffered an ankle injury in basketball season which caused him to miss several of the camps and combines that occurred back in March. He told us that he is close to 100% and participating in track.
"I am throwing the shot this spring. My best is 48'10 inches. I took first place at a meet at Michigan State recently. I have thrown over 50-feet in several practice throws I just have not done it in a meet, but I have already equaled my best from last year so I am confident I will get up there. My goal is to break the school record. I am also planning on going to the Midwest Elite Combine in a couple of weeks."
Michigan State has recruited very well at the offensive tackle positions the past two years. That fact has allowed them to be very selective as far as who they are going to offer. Schlachter will certainly be a player that Coach Dantonio will be looking forward to seeing at camp this summer. It is at that camp where Schlachter could officially earn his Spartan offer and possible become a member of the Michigan State class of 2011.
