Schlachter has Spartans on top
Offensive lineman Jalen Schlachter of Corunna High School has had a solid spring evaluation period. The 6-foot-6, 290-pound prospect now has 5 scholarships on the table and has a definite idea of how he hopes his recruitment plays out. SpartanMag.com spoke with him and got the latest details.
During April and May college coaches can stop into the high schools to evaluate recruits though there are strict rules about actual contact. Like many top recruits, Schlachter has seen a steady stream of coaches stop in. We asked him about the most recent visitors and his scholarship offers.
"Buffalo was in today and Indiana was in last week. Michigan State was also in last week too. I have offers from Missouri, Wisconsin, Indiana, Central Michigan and Ball State."
With 5 early offers, including 3 from BCS programs, Schlachter is solidly one of the top recruits in Michigan for the class of 2011. SpartanMag.com recently ranked him as the #13 player in the state and the #2 offensive linemen behind Anthony Zettel of Ogemaw Heights High School. That fact that Michigan State may actually like Zettel as a potential defensive tackle prospect could bode well for Schlachter receiving a Spartan offer. We asked him about him about his summer camp plans.
"I am going to go to Indiana on June 12th and I will be at Michigan State on the 19th (June) for their 1-day senior camp. I am thinking they may offer me then.
If the Spartans do offer Schlachter a scholarship, they may not have to wait very long for him to make his college choice.
"If they offer I will say, where do I sign?"
Schlachter desire to be a Spartan is something that Mark Dantonio and his staff can appreciate. Often the best players at any school are the ones who bleed that teams' color.
Schlachter is also participating in track this spring and has his shot going out around 50 feet. He will compete at the regional meet this weekend at Williamston and then hopes for a personal best at states on June 5th at Zeeland High School.
