Lineman has a top three

A big-bodied athlete that is starting to get some looks from colleges after a strong spring is Miami Jackson two-way lineman Ruben Carter. The 6-foot-4, 270-pounder has pulled in several offers and even claims a top three early in the process.

"Middle Tennessee, Rutgers, University of Kentucky, University of Kansas, Tennessee State, New Mexico, FIU, Syracuse and I have a couple more," said Carter on offers that he has received so far.

Of those offers, Carter has three schools that stand out in his mind the most at this juncture in his recruitment.

"My top three are University of Kentucky, the University of Kansas, and FIU right now," said Carter.

The talented 2011 prospect went on to break down why he likes each in his top three.

"When I got FIU, I got that offer my 10th grade year heading into my 11th grade year, that spring season so I was still a sophomore. They have been with me ever since, even though I didn't have test scores or anything they liked the way I played and I was a versatile player. So I have a bond with Coach Cristobal.

"The University of Kentucky, their coach (defensive line coach David Turner) played with one of the coaches on my staff. He's got a good connection with him. He tells me a lot about what I need to work on and a lot about how I can come be a big time player in their program.

"The University of Kansas, they've just been a team that I look up to. The team I used to play with on college, you know how everyone plays Play Station and stuff. And I have a good bond with their head coach as well."

When it comes time for Carter to make a decision, he understands what he is looking for in a program and coaching staff.

"I don't have any issues on leaving Miami, so I'm not worried about leaving Miami if I have to. I just like a coaching staff who is trustworthy and I know will have my back, as in if I need help in school or if I have a problem. I also like a school that if I can't start as a freshman, get some playing time so I can know how the game goes."
