Daniels breaks state TD record

Albuquerque (N.M.) La Cueva athlete Ronnie Daniels' team remained unbeaten on the season with a 45-12 win over Mayfield last week, improving to 6-0. In that game, Daniels rushed for four touchdowns, giving him the New Mexico state record for career touchdowns with eighty. Unsurprisingly, Daniels was still focused on the larger picture.

"Breaking the record was great. I didn't even know that I had done it until after the game. After it was over I was still just happy that we had won," Daniels said. "It feels great to have the record and it feels good to have the hard work I've put in over the past few years pay off. It was really cool to get to do that, but I'm already done with it. We're moving on to the next game and that's what I'm all about right now."

Since committing to Texas Tech in late July, Daniels has continued to hear from programs like Arizona and Utah. He's also continued to be in contact with the staff in Lubbock, most notably, assistant coach Sonny Cumbie.

"I talk to Coach Cumbie probably every week, one way or another. We talk on the phone some, but we also talk on Facebook a lot," he said. "It's cool to have coaches that understand how to even use that kind of thing to communicate with us. Not all of them even know it's there. Coach Cumbie is a really cool guy. We get along great."

The 6-foot-1, 195-pound standout has no visits planned to other schools at the moment. He is making an effort to visit West Texas again for the Red Raiders next home game.

"I think I'm going to make the trip for their next game on the 16th against Oklahoma State. It's been great to get to see them the times that I have so far. I'm excited to get there and check out the environment for a conference game. It should be a good one."

Daniels committed to Texas Tech in July over offers from Arizona, East Carolina, Illinois, Minnesota, New Mexico, New Mexico State, San Diego State, and Tulsa.
