Davis busy rehabbing injury
Houston (Texas) Klein Forest quarterback Matt Davis suffered an ACL injury the first game of this season and since that time, he's been focused on getting his health back to one-hundred percent as quickly as possible.
"I haven't been talking to many schools lately, just concentrating on my rehab and trying to get back on the field as soon as I can," Davis said. "It's been going really well so far. We're ahead of schedule right now and I should start running next Friday, I think. It's been going smoothly and I'm feeling good about where I'm at with it."
The 2012 standout has already garnered interest from the top programs across the country. He's continued to hear from schools like Cal, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, and USC to name a few. He's also been in contact with the staff at Texas Tech, and it sounds like they've built a relationship so far that the 6-foot-2, 198-pounder hasn't found elsewhere.
"I talk with Coach Tommy Mainord and Coach Neal Brown the most. Our relationship is very good right now. One thing the guys at Tech have done a great job of with me is just being straight-up about everything," he said. "They created a relationship with me last year and we've spoken a lot ever since. Some coaches want to you to call them and bring that relationship to them, but it's not like that with Tech. I talk to them pretty often and it's always just a casual conversation."
"I don't feel like they've got any hidden surprises or anything. They've just been really cool guys since I've gotten to know them We're always in contact one way or another through Facebook, or email, or whatever. They're definitely a program that has my interest right now."
With another season left to play, and an injury to overcome, Davis has understandably put his visit plans on hold for the time being. Often times, however, the television remote control has been what's kept him at home on Saturdays.
"I haven't taken any visits yet and I'm not sure when I will. My injury has slowed down that process a little bit. I'm also just a college football fan so I like to be at home watching all of those games on Saturdays. I like to get that remote and flip around through all of the different games going on," he said. "I may be taking some visits towards the end of the season, but I'm not sure yet. There may be a game or two that I'd like to go see. I don't have any specific teams in mind right now, but I know their will be a few options for me to look at when I get ready to do that."
Aside from Texas Tech, Davis also holds offers from Alabama, Arizona, Auburn, Baylor, Iowa State, LSU, Oklahoma State, Oregon, TCU, Texas A&M, and Tulsa.
