Things heating up for Davis
Houston (Texas) Klein Forest quarterback Matt Davis' recruitment continues to heat up as the end of the year gets closer. With offers already in hand from some of the top programs across the nation, the 2012 prospect has surprisingly managed to keep his recruitment on the back-burner while he continues to rehabilitate an ACL tear.
"I've been staying with my rehab and trying to get back to one-hundred percent as soon as possible. It's been a difficult process, but it's gone great," he said. "They're not wanting to rush anything, but I'm hoping I can start running on the 26th of this month. That would put me pretty well ahead of schedule. My knee is feeling great."
"I'm still getting attention from all of the schools in Texas. There have been a few more from outside the state that have joined in too. I had just been getting a lot of attention from schools in the Big 12 and the SEC, but now I'm getting some from out west too. I've started getting a lot of stuff from Arizona, Oregon, and USC. I haven't made any visit plans with anyone yet, though. I've mostly just been trying to stay on top of my rehab and get where I need to be with that. So, that's been taking up most of my time, but it's gone great."
Davis indicated that he'd probably start trying to take a few visits when the spring rolls around, and he'd like to have his list narrowed down by the summer.
"I saw seven schools this past time around. I went to Tech, Texas, TCU, A&M, LSU, Alabama, and Auburn. I'll probably go to Oklahoma and Oklahoma State this summer. I may also check out some schools in Florida if I get the chance," he said. "By then I'll probably start narrowing some down to a top five or six. I'm going to be graduating early so I'd like to have an idea of where I'm going to go before the end of the summer."
The 6-foot-2, 198-pound standout has remained in contact with the coaches at Texas Tech. The Red Raider staff was one of the first to offer Davis, and the relationship has only grown since then.
"I talk with Coach Neal Brown, Coach Tommy Mainord, Coach Chad Scott, and even Coach Tommy Tuberville every once in a while," he said. "Those guys are great. They've got a real nice family atmosphere going on with their program. It's a great relationship that I've got with the coaches at Tech."
"They're the first school that I really built a relationship with. They were the first one's to make an effort to get in touch with my coaches about me, so they've been on me for a while. It's sort of like a 'first love.' They were the first one's to show any love to me so I've always liked that relationship. It's only grown from then and they're still high on my list."
Aside from Texas Tech, Davis holds offers from Alabama, Arizona, Auburn, Baylor, Iowa, Iowa State, LSU, Oklahoma State, Oregon, Purdue, TCU, Texas A&M, and Tulsa.
