Fresno State looks to rebound against Vandals

After an embaressing 51-0 loss to Boise State last Friday night, the Fresno State Bulldogs will look to rebound and get back on the winning track as they host the other team from Idaho the Idaho Vandals. The shut-out was the first time the Bulldogs had been blanked since 1998.

Offense:

Fresno State: The Bulldogs will need to get back to playing their style of football. Ryan Colburn who had possibly the worst game of his career going 6 of 23 for 73 yards and two interceptions. Look for Colburn to get back on track this week. Robbie Rouse who had consecutive 200 yard games was held to just 70 yards against Boise State. Look for him to have a great week against the Vandals. Idaho allows nearly 30 points a game so look for Fresno State to get there avergae of 31 points a game.

Idaho: The Vandals are coming off a 28-6 victory over Utah State. With the Vandals ranked 116th in the nation in rushing with an average of 87 yards a game, look for them to throw the ball a lot. They are eight in the nation in passing yards a game with 316 yards a game. Quarterback Nathan Enderle has thrown for 2900 yards and 21 touchdowns this season but has also thrown 18 interceptions this season. Look for Enderle to have trouble against a hungry Fresno State defense.

Defense:

Fresno State: The Bulldogs defense played really well against fourth ranked Boise State in the firs quarter but then were outmatched the rest of the game. This could be a great game for senior defensive end Chris Carter who will get many oppurtunities to rush the quarterback. Also Logan Harrell who has been having a great year could also help in that matter. Philip Thomas and the secondary will have to stop the air game of the Vandals and hold down the big plays that have killed the Bulldogs all season.

Idaho: The Vandals do give up points and with a Fresno State offense that was shut-out last game and will come out with something to prove this may be a tough game for the Vandals. They give up 30 points per game. The Vandals will need to try and slow down Robbie Rouse who will get plenty of carries against a team that allows 192 yards a game. Also look for Ryan Colburn and recivers Jamel Hamler and Jalen Saunders who have been able to connect with each other a lot this season. Look for Aaron Lavarias who leads the Vandals with 8 sacks this year to pressure Colburn.

Special Teams:

Fresno State: The Special teams for Fresno State has had a great season blocking kicks. Isaiah Burse had great kick returns against Boise State. Look for him and Isaiah Burse to have an impact on the return game. Also for Kevin Goessling to be big if the Bulldogs need field goals if they cant finish drives.

Idaho: Trey Farqhuar is 14-20 this year on attempting field goals. Look for Farqhuar to have a big impact on the game to as he may have to attempt field goals for the Vandals. The return game for Idaho is not good. They have no return touchdowns this season and only average 3.9 yard on punt returns. Thi scould be a key in a game that may go wither way.

Other: Fresno State is two straight losses and are looking to get back on track this week. With the win they would get their seventh win of the season and finsih 5-3 in WAC play. This would also go a long way momentum wise before a closing game against Illinois. Idaho is looking to become Bowl eligbile and can only go to the post season with a Win Saturday night at Bulldog Stadium. Look for a game that could go either way as bot teams are going to be hungry for a win.
