Wilson ready to make the call

Decision day is almost here for Corona (Calif.) defensive end DeVante Wilson.

Wilson plans to announce his college decision Wednesday. Even with his announcement looming, Wilson snuck in a couple of in-home visits last week and an official visit to USC this weekend.

The three-star prospect visited Arizona and Nebraska during the season. Though he did not get to see the Trojans in action this weekend, Wilson was a frequent visitor to the Coliseum during the season.

Wilson was satisfied with his final visit.

"It went well. I had a good time," Wilson said. "I got to talk to Coach Baxter about the academics program, and I learned a little bit more about that, which was good."

The low-key vibe Wilson experienced at USC seemed to resonate with the defensive end. That atmosphere included the time he spent with his host and former teammate, Demetrius Wright.

"We just hung out and I asked the players questions about the program and how the coaches treated them," Wilson said. "Demetrius is doing well. He said the academic support is really good over there."

A meeting with defensive line coach Ed Orgeron is unlikely to be described as laid back. But Oregeron's enthusiasm was well-received by Wilson.

"He's just a really fired-up guy," Wilson said. "He showed me some film from back in the day when he coached the Wild Bunch."

Wilson gave his visit to USC a slight edge when compared to his time spent at Nebraska and Arizona, his other finalists.

"I think it was a little better than the other two," Wilson said. "I had more time to sit down with the coaches since there wasn't a game, so it wasn't as rushed. It was pretty laid back."

Unlike many other top prospects, Wilson will not hold a press conference to announce his decision. He said he would only call the coaching staffs and media Wednesday to inform them of his decision.

Wilson acknowledged benefits to going out-of-state for college, but also said he saw the benefits of staying home.

"Having my parents at a lot of the games is big," Wilson said. will have the latest information on Wilson's decision on Wednesday.
