Departures: La. Tech football edition

Following the Louisiana Tech spring game April 2nd, there was an altercation at Rabb's in Ruston that left a Tech football player in jail and charged with assault on a police officer and indefinitely suspended from the team. A month later it looks like more players may be off the team.

Tech has become a "Transfer U" of sorts in recent years with the likes of Tim Molton, Ahmad Paige, and Lennon Creer all transferring in from the Southeastern Conference. In further memory Tech fans remember Rolando Melancon who signed with Tennessee but could not get eligible for the NCAA clearinghouse. As a result, he enrolled at Tech. Melancon never dressed out for a game at Louisiana Tech before being dismissed from the team.

The old saying goes, "he transferred for a reason". A couple of weeks ago, we heard Paige had been kicked off the team for failing a drug test for a performance enhancing substance. Before running with this news, we wanted to verify it as fact. It took a couple of weeks but we did verify it as truth.

Paige came to Louisiana Tech from Tennessee before playing high school football at nearby Sterlington High School. Paige was a 4-star prospect on out of Sterlington. While at Tennessee, Paige received a head injury after running into a wall beyond the end zone in Tennessee's Neyland Stadium. After the injury, Paige decided to transfer to a school closer to home.

In the opening paragraph, a Tech football player is mentioned as being indefinitely suspended from the team. Most of you reading this know that player is IK Enemkpali. Information has surfaced that suggests the assault on a police officer charges have been or will be dropped on Ememkpali.
