Will Leonard Step Up?

The Fighting Illini lost a great deal of depth in the frontcourt this off season, as seniors Mike Tisdale and Mike Davis both moved on, while freshman Jereme Richmond also decided to take his talents to another venue. That leaves very little in the way of returning minutes. However, the Illini are not without talent up front. Sophomore Meyers Leonard is expected to be the mainstay in the middle, but he will be challenged by a talented freshman big man in Nnanna Egwu and both guys will have a great deal of pressure on them. Are they up to the challenge?

Meyers Leonard
The 7 footer from Robinson, IL has all of the measurable you could want. He's athletic, very strong, explosive, and actually has some decent skills and touch. However, his stat line and performance as a freshman left you wanting more. His foul rate was off the charts, he didn't rebound and he looked generally lost out on the floor. That's probably being kind, too.
