Alabama preview

Mississippi State is one win shy of becoming bowl eligible.

To reach six wins tonight at 6:45 p.m. will be a tough task taking on No. 3 Alabama but the Bulldogs will have the benefit of home field advantage inside Davis Wade Stadium.

MSU is currently 5-4 on the year and 1-4 in the Southeastern Conference. The Bulldogs have won two straight games and three of their last four since securing their offensive line after three early season injuries.

Last week State swarmed Tennessee-Martin 55-17 last week for homecoming rolling up 570 yards of offense in the process. Vick Ballard rushed for 102 yards and two touchdowns and Chris Relf accounted for three scores.

The Bulldogs have struggled historically against their twin state rival from Tuscaloosa with Alabama holding a 74-18-3 edge in the series. The Crimson Tide have won three straight including a 30-10 victory last season. Alabama also leads the series in Starkville 15-4.

Last year at Bryant-Denny Stadium the Tide totaled 452 yards as Greg McElroy threw for 227 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. Mississippi State scored their only touchdown with 8:08 remaining in the game.
