Grindle gearing up for state title

This afternoon Xavier Grindle will step onto the field at Memorial Stadium in Jackson, Miss., with his East Marion teammates with one goal in mind - a championship.

The Eagles square off against West Bolivar at 2 p.m. to see which school will hoist the gold ball after the Class 2A State Championship game.

"I'm expecting a great game," Grindle said. "It'll be a very physical game between two teams and hopefully we'll win. I'm looking forward to it. I feel like you should get nervous before every ballgame because if you're not nervous then you're not ready to play the game of football. I'll be nervous but when I get hit it all goes away and it's time to play football."

Grindle helped East Marion reach a 13-1 record this season by rushing for 2,040 yards and 19 touchdowns on 210 carries. He has also hauled in five passes for 73 yards. Defensively, Grindle has made 25 tackles and six interceptions as well as returning two punts for scores and a kickoff for a touchdown.

The Eagles will be facing a West Bolivar team that is 14-1 and only allowing their opponents 8.6 points per game this season.
