West Virginia preview

No. 21 Mississippi State's non-conference schedule was designed to challenge the Bulldogs early on before reaching Southeastern Conference play.

So far MSU has passed that test. But tonight the Bulldogs host West Virginia at 8 p.m. as part of the SEC/ Big East Challenge and might be their toughest task so far. It will also be the first time a Big East opponent has visited Humphrey Coliseum.

Tonight marks just the second time the two teams have met on the hardwood. The Mountaineers claimed the previous matchup at Madison Square Garden in New York in the semifinals of the 2007 NIT Tournament. WVU pulled out a 63-62 win on a 3-point buzzer beater shot by Darris Nichols.

The Bulldogs are 9-13 against team from the Big East. State won their last SEC/ Big East Challenge game 76-45 against DePaul in Tampa, Fla., during the 2009-10 season.

Rick Stansbury's squad enters tonight's game riding a six game winning streak. The Bulldogs last victory came Sunday 82-59 over North Texas at home. Junior forward Arnett Moultrie led the way for Mississippi State in that game with 20 points and nine rebounds after missing two games with tendonitis in his knees.
