Jones ready to verbal?

Syracuse struggled at times with a young defensive line and it is because of that the Orange are looking for a more experienced defensive tackle. That prospect is JUCO defensive tackle Zian Jones.

"Syracuse offered me last Monday morning," Jones said."I loved getting the offer they are a good school and moving to the ACC."

Jones, 6-foot-5, 325 pounds has not had a chance to become familiar with Syracuse, but what he has heard he likes.

"I know they have a nice stadium and I know they are a good school to have a degree from," Jones said. "I just hear a lot about how they have a good reputation."

Greg Adkins is the main recruiter for Jones at this time, but when Syracuse offered he talked with more than just Adkins.

"I have been in contact with Coach Greg Adkins. When I first talked to him he passed the phone around to all of the coaches. I talked to the Head Coach Doug Marrone when he passed the phone off. It was pretty cool."

While on the phone with the Orange coaching staff Jones spoke a little about what was said.

"We just talked about the team and how it was a good school to go to."

Besides the Orange Jones has three other offers.

"Right now I have offers from Portland State, New Mexico and Eastern Michigan."

With four offers in hand right now Jones will be taking visits very soon.

"I have my visit to Eastern Michigan on January 13, Syracuse will be on January 20th, and then New Mexico."

When he makes those trips he has a few items in mind that he will be looking for.

"I will be looking to see what the vibe is like on campus see what the positive energy is like, the females [Jones said with a laugh] that is it basically."

Out of those four schools there is one that has started to separate itself from the pack.

"I am liking Syracuse right now I am not going to lie,"

If the Syracuse visit goes well will Jones give the Orange a verbal commitment?

"There is maybe a slight chance of that yeah."

Depending on his decision if it is in fact to go to Syracuse he has an idea of how he will be able to help out when he gets on campus.

"I would definitely be able to help them get to the quarterback and just doing what it is that I am being scouted for and playing well."

Time will tell if he picks Syracuse or not, but if he does not there will not be a set time for a decision.

"I do not have a real timetable for a decision," Jones stated "I will be graduating in May."
