Green shows steady growth
Junior quarterback Cody Green struggled in his Tulsa debut two weekends ago, but after a solid bounce-back performance against Tulane, TU Head Coach Bill Blankenship was quick to praise his signal caller.
"I thought Cody Green performed extremely well," Blankenship said after beating Tulane 45-10. "Before anybody asks, he'll be our quarterback next week."
That quieted any talk of a quarterback controversy.
In the season-opening loss at Iowa State, Green completed just 23-of-49 passes (47-percent) for 198 yards. He threw two touchdown passes but was also picked off twice. One interception came on a critical drive late in the fourth quarter with TU trailing by eight points.
That performance sparked discussions by TU fans on message boards and talk radio, some being overly critical of Green, even though the Nebraska transfer had only played one game in a Golden Hurricane uniform after sitting out a year.
However, Green went about his business on Saturday morning against Tulane, throwing for more than 250 yards in the first half. He completed a respectable 61.5-percent of his throws (16-of-26) for 274 yards and two touchdowns on the day.
