Lunt's go-to guy?

Oklahoma State players and coaches met with the media on Monday to recap their upset loss to Arizona and look forward to Saturday's matchup with Louisiana. In today's notebook, the defense looks for answers and there may be another special QB-to-WR connection brewing in Stillwater.

Defensive adjustments

Arizona took the small-ball approach in their game against the ball-hawking defense from Oklahoma State, and it worked.

They kept OSU's defensive scheme honest, running short plays for three to five yards on almost every down, with the only memorable shot downfield coming on a busted coverage.

"It can be frustrating," safety Shamiel Gary said. "As a defense you have to key on what you're supposed to be keying on. They have a great offensive coordinator, but as a defense we need to make sure we get our right reads and have no mental errors."

Arizona racked up 501 total yards. Of those, 126 were from the Wildcat's starting running back Ka'Deem Carey, who also added 3 touchdowns.

The rushing output was surprising, and uncharacteristic for the OSU defense to allow that kind of yardage.

"That's what was frustrating, that's all on the front seven," defensive end Cooper Bassett said. "We've got to do a better job of getting in our gaps and asserting ourselves to get off the block and make the play."

The defense will continue preparation in the same way, as Louisiana's offensive scheme is very similar to Arizona's this week. They also defensive coordinator Bill Young back with the team. Young has missed time while recovering from a medical procedure, but was at the media luncheon today and said he expects to coach Saturday.
