It was an ugly first half for the offense who managed ZERO third down conversions and only 98 total yards. Was it the cold, wet weather or the Utah defensive front that caused them to look out of sync?

My thoughts are that this Utah team is a lot better than their record indicates.  Kyle Wittingham always seems to have a technically strong defense and this year was no different.

While many fans in Beaver Nation gnaw on this, let me go ahead and say it…the Beavers won.

Cody Vaz took care of the football (no interceptions) and while it wasn't pretty, Oregon State was able to take advantage of a couple of big defensive turnovers that gave them a short field and they capitalized with touchdowns, not field goals.

The offensive line did a great job in pass protection, especially given the size and athleticism of the Utes' defensive front.  While they didn't give Vaz as much time as they did in Provo, he did have time to get the ball off, and he was protected from being sacked.

Because the run game was struggling, I would  have liked to have seen some more quick hitches and screens, which may have helped to open up the run game.  Connor Hamlett is also becoming a very viable threat and should see more touches as the year progresses.

Kevin Cummings had a big second half, helping to maintain a drive hat allowed the Beavers take a two score lead.  Not only did he catch a big 25 yard first down catch, he then took a brutal helmet to helmet hit which moved the team 15 yards closer to the goal line.  Big night for #84 and as he and Hamlett continue to become threats, it will open up Markus Wheaton and Brandin Cooks a little more too.

Apparently in 2012, a Reser home game means a defensive battle.   Mirroring the prior two home games, the offense didn't have a whole lot of highlights, but did enough to get the victory.
