Scouting Cal LB commit Chandler Leniu

Cal added an immense piece at a need position when St. John Bosco (Bellflower, CA) linebacker Chandler Leniu went public with his Cal commitment last Tuesday. The 6'0", 225-pound Leniu is a prototypical middle linebacker that Cal desperately needs with freshman Chad Whitener on the way out and Nick Forbes' career still in limbo thanks to lingering back problems.

While his height may have given some programs pause on offering a scholarship, Leniu's production for the best team in the state and arguably the country cannot be ignored. In the middle of a star-studded Braves defense, Leniu recorded an incredible 238 tackles this season, with 161 of those being solo. That's an average of just under 15 tackles per game. For the second consecutive year, Leniu was named the Defensive MVP of the Trinity League, probably the toughest league in California prep football. He was also named as the All-CIF Co-Defensive Player of the Year in the Pac-5 Division. In his varsity career at Bosco, he tallied a whopping 526 total tackles.
