Smith picks UNC

Durham, N.C., Hillside safety/outside linebacker Jonathan Smith called the North Carolina coaches Tuesday to tell them he wanted to be a Tar Heel.

"I committed to North Carolina today," the 6-foot-3, 195 pounder said. "I called coach (Tommy) Thigpen and told him and coach (Kenny) Browning I wanted to go to North Carolina. I went for the spring game and I liked what I saw. It is a good program that is going in a good direction."

Smith had 95 tackles and four sacks last season for Hillside.

Smith has interest from Nebraska, Wake Forest, Clemson and N.C. State. He said he might take some unoffical visits, but Carolina is the school for him.
