Shoemate is Super

Anaheim (Calif.) Servite althete D.J. Shoemate is ahead of his time.

Becoming the first sophomore to ever verbally commit to USC in the Pete Carroll era, Shoemate did so without a written offer from the Trojans. Per NCAA rules, recruits cannot receive written mail from colleges until September of their junior year, but Shoemate couldn't wait to commit.

Instead of a scholarship offer, USC conveyed their interest in Shoemate to Servite Head Coach Troy Thomas. The rest is history - for the not-so near future.

Last season, Shoemate had 464 yards rushing and 10 touchdowns to go with 35 receptions for 646 yards and five touchdowns. He could end up playing running back, wide receiver or safety for USC.
