Pegues ready to step up

If ever there was a dynasty in Mississippi high school football, South Panola has the claims to it. This talent-rich high school has put on out many quality athletes over the years, but Mississippi State never garnered the interest of them. That was until Mario Bobo signed with the dogs and a year later All-American Derek Pegues decided to give his pledge to Coach Croom.

Coming from a winning high school, Pegues was use to being successful. Even though State is going through its rebuilding stage, Derek has always had a good attitude about the progress that the team was making.

"I'm always going to be competitive and I'm a winner. Being from South Panola we won a couple of championships while I was there, but we went through the same type of rebuilding phase my freshman year. Then going into my senior year nobody thought we would be any good, but we worked hard and we were determined to prove those people wrong. It eventually paid off in the end."
