'I will commit to them before my first game'

Miguel Chavis' stock has been rising and he's shot up North Carolina's board. The 6-5, 258-pound defensive end from Fayetteville, N.C., Terry Sanford worked out this past weekend at UNC's rising senior camp. He received glowing attention from the staff and did his best to impress them on his already standing offer. Where do the Tar Heels sit in Chavis' recruitment?

"I will commit soon to (UNC), sometime before my first game," Chavis said. "I am down to Virginia Tech and North Carolina. Virginia Tech is a great school. I'm still going to talk to my family about it, especially my brother, but Carolina has showed me more love than anyone else. That will be the cover story (when I commit) - Carolina boy playing for Carolina."

Chavis arrived Friday in Chapel Hill and stayed through mid-day on Saturday.

"I've been there three or four other times, but this time I got a lot closer and more attention from the coaches," he said. "The defensive line coaches - coach Browning and coach Pearman - I worked out with them. They said I was the best defensive end there. They helped me with my technique and we did some one-on-ones with the offensive linemen. Coach Sanders gave us a lot of love. My brother and I spent some time talking with him."
