NC State picks up quarterback commitment

NC State picked up verbal commitment No. 9 when Richmond, Va., Collegiate High quarterback Russell Wilson picked the Pack. Wilson excited NC State coaches with a great showing during the Pack's summer camp, earning a scholarship offer. He picked NC State over an offer from Duke and strong interest from UNC and Louisville.

"I've been thinking about NC State for a while, and yesterday and then this morning it hit me," Wilson said. "I talked to my parents, my coaches at Collegiate, my brother, people I trust, my friends, and they all thought NC State was good for me."

Wilson phoned head coach Chuck Amato to give him the good news Sunday morning.

"He got really excited," Wilson said. "He is very upbeat. They were really into me and everything."

Football will not be the only sport that Wilson plays at NC State. He is also going to be a member of the baseball team. Wilson is a standout shortstop.
