Media Day: Kanellis makes most of opportunity
When opportunity knocks, you have to try and answer. As Iowa's fall camp got underway this past week, opportunity was rapping at the door of Alex Kanellis at defensive end and the Iowa City native was ready to answer. Kanellis talks about putting on 40 pounds over the last year, what this opportunity means to him, the close knit group that is the defensive line, his Mohawk this past spring and if it will return, plus much more.
Q: You said you are at 290 pound. What did you come in at last year?
KANELLIS: About 250.
Q: What did you do to put on the good weight?
KANELLIS: Just eating good like they tell me to and try to cut the fat out and then doing Coach Doyle's program. I guess that put on the weight.
Q: Things happen in football and it creates and opportunity. You are getting one of those opportunities right now with Kenny being out. Talk about this opportunity.
KANELLIS: For me, I just prepare the same way that I always have anyway. That is just how our team works. Our fifth string guys are preparing just as hard as our guys who might be starting. Everybody wants Kenny back really bad. If I need to step in, then I will. That is the attitude of this team.
