Position breakdown: Safeties

Jeramie Johnson is a workout machine. He is very experienced and he tied for the SEC lead in interceptions last year. Johnson's leadership will be unmatched, but it will be tested as the younger guys settle in. He leads by example and has set the bar for his teammates to follow.

"Jeramie Johnson has been around this program a long time," Coach Smith commented. "He is an experienced and a tough guy.

"I really like the leadership Jeramie brings and I expect a lot of things out of Jeramie this year. He is so smart and knows the defense, and I could not see us having a better safety. He is as good a player that I have ever coached.

"To sum him up, he is experienced, he is tough, he is athletic, he works hard, and he is a good leader. I really like what he brings to our team."

A converted cornerback, Keith Fitzhugh has taken his safety position and run with it. His cornerback skills will do nothing but bring out his natural abilities at safety.

Fitzhugh's confidence and aggressiveness makes him a perfect fit.
