Reier's Top 10 Tiders

The following is a list of Top 10 Tiders for Week 8 of the 2006 football season. Every Wednesday, BOL senior writer Travis Reier lists his top 10 Tide performers. In effect, the list serves as a week-to-week ranking of Alabama's most valuable players.

1. DJ Hall Last Week: 1
Hall's five-game streak of 100-yard receiving games came to an end in the Tide's win over Florida International. Hall caught two passes for 27 yards, including a one-handed 21-yarder, while playing 36 snaps against the Golden Panthers. With 732 receiving yards, Hall is still on pace to surpass David Palmer's single-season mark of 1,000 yards.

2. Antoine Caldwell Last Week: 2
Caldwell has played 554 of a possible 587 snaps (94.4 percent) on offense this season and has graded out at 90 percent or better in all nine games. The sophomore played through an ankle injury in the win over FIU.

3. Simeon Castille Last Week: 3
Gave up FIU's lone big play, but he did produce another turnover, this time on a third-quarter fumble recovery. Tied for the SEC lead in fumble recoveries (three) and interceptions (five). His eight total turnovers are the most in the league this season.

4. Prince Hall Last Week: 4
Has at least one tackle for loss in each of his last four games. Hall leads UA with eight TFLs this year. Now has six starts to his credit this season, including the last four games in a row.

5. John Parker Wilson Last Week: 7
Aggravated left ankle sprain in first half against FIU, but returned for start of third quarter. Excellent throw to Will Oakley on 24-yard hookup in the second quarter. Still on pace to pass for more than 2,600 yards, which would break Brodie Croyle's year-old single-season mark of 2,499 yards.

6. Wallace Gilberry Last Week: 6
Two total tackles, one-half tackle for loss and a quarterback hurry against FIU. Leads all defensive linemen with 396 snaps, including a season-high 54 snaps at Tennessee on Oct. 21. Gilberry has played 50 or more snaps four times this season.

7. Ramzee Robinson Last Week: 9
Robinson's 34-yard interception return for a score against FIU was the first touchdown of his UA career. Has played in all 46 games in his UA career and logged 128 tackles, 24 PBUs and four interceptions.

8. Juwan Simpson Last Week: 10
Honored as the Tide's defensive player of the week after being credited with five solo tackles, one tackle for loss and three quarterback hurries against FIU. Team co-leader with 56 tackles this season.

9. Andre Smith Last Week: 8
Smith has played a team-leading 597 snaps this season, including special teams. Appears to be feeling the effects of his first full season on the collegiate level, but that hasn't kept him from becoming a fixture at left tackle.

10. Kenneth Darby Last Week: Fringe
Led the ground game with 70 yards on 10 carries against FIU. Named offensive player of the week for his efforts. Darby's 33-yard run was his second longest of the season. Needs 395 yards to break the UA career rushing record currently held by Shaun Alexander, the 2005 NFL most valuable player.

SIX ON THE FRINGE: WR Keith Brown; KR Javier Arenas; HB Jimmy Johns; SS Jeffrey Dukes; WR Will Oakley; DE Keith Saunders.
