Pearland one win away from state semi-finals

On October 7, there were questions about the Pearland Oilers and their sky-high expectations for the 2006-07 season. The Oilers were coming off of two straight losses to begin district play. September 29, Pearland was soundly beaten at the hands of Clear Lake 40-20 and lost to Brazoswood 30-25 the following Friday.

At that point, it's doubtful many of the Pearland faithful could see the type of playoff run that the Oilers have since embarked on.

The Oilers had to have someone step up and lead Pearland to the playoffs, facing must win games every week after starting district 0-2. To no one's surprise, future Texas Longhorns running back Foswhitt Whittaker put the team on his back and came up with the top performances of his high school career.
