Scouting report: Mallett, Williams at Army Bowl
Sean Callahan, publisher of HuskersIllustrated.com, has been covering the U.S. Army All-American Bowl for each of the past three years and he's never seen anything like Michigan commitment Ryan Mallett before. Callahan offered a scouting report on the U-M quarterback of the future, as well as defensive back target Michael Williams
"I've been coming down here for all three years and I've been covering high school football and the recruiting scene for awhile and Ryan Mallett clearly has the strongest arm I've ever seen," Callahan said. "In the longest ball competition, he threw it 87 yards, which is just absurd. They had receivers, at one point, running 55-yard routes and he was tossing the ball down the field like it was a routine throw. It's really an unbelievable arm."
So good in fact that not even the nation's best receivers could corral his passes earlier this week.
A 6-7, 250-pound five-star prospect, Mallett "fits the idea of a Michigan quarterback perfectly," Callahan added.
