Positions to watch heading into spring
Arizona Football will enter the spring more loaded top to bottom than it has been in head coach Mike Stoops' tenure. The Wildcats return nine starters on offense and ten starters on defense for the 2007 season. Although the Wildcats return a wealth of talent and experience, there are still some key positions to keep an eye on this spring.
To start off someone will have big shoes to fill for Michael Johnson at the safety position. With that said, their job will be easier with one of the best supporting casts in Pac-10 in the defensive backfield with players such as Antoine Cason, Wilrey Fontenot and Dominic Patrick.
Although many thought the position would fall toward highly recruited redshirting junior safety Nate Ness, the truth is that no one has a lead and the position will be open.
Michael Klyce should have the best shot to impress early as he did a fantastic job filling in for Johnson in times which he was injured this past season. Klyce is a big hitter who has an eye for the ball in coverage.
Other candidates could include Corey Hall, who did great backing up Patrick at free safety, and Cameron Nelson. Nelson is a fundamental cornerback who has the potential to play anywhere in the secondary. He looks to have a great future at corner, but with both starters returning, his talent might be experimented with this spring in order to get him on the field.
