Hoops staff looks for a big man for 2008

Jamie Dixon and his coaching staff picked up verbal commitments recently from point guard Travon Woodall (5-11) from St. Anthony's in New Jersey and from Nasir Robinson (6-5) from Chester, Pa. Both prospects were recruited by assistant Mike Rice.

The Pitt staff currently has one scholarship left to give for the recruiting Class of 2008 and perhaps it will be given to a big man capable of playing the No. 4 or 5 positions. By the time we get to the fall of 2008 junior college transfer Cassin Diggs (6-10) will be a senior as will forwards Sam Young (6-6) and Tyrell Biggs (6-8).

One of those possibilities is forward Eloy Vargas (6-10) from American High School in Plantation, Fla. We spoke to his guardian Brionne Gillion who is also an assistant coach with AAU Team Breakdown which Vargas plays for.
