Riley: Auburn getting special player
Davidson head coach Fred Riley has seen a lot of players come and go during his 26 years in the coaching profession. But in all those years, he's never seen a safety quite like Michael McNeil.
It was as a ninth grader that McNeil first caught Riley's eye.
"I was defensive coordinator here for two years," he said. "We played some guys at safety, bless their hearts, that were great kids but they weren't Michael McNeil. We always said if we could ever get a safety to come along how much better we would be defensively.
"We played McNeil as a sophomore and he was a dominant player as a junior. In 25, 26 years of doing this, he's the best (safety) I've ever had."
