Mat Drills Day Two - A Rookie's Perspective


The second of nine mat drill sessions was completed in the early morning hours on Wednesday. Warchant.com has been keeping up with freshman defensive tackle Budd Thacker, to get the inside scoop on the mat drill experience from a rookie's perspective. Here is what he told us about day two of FSU's off-season conditioning program.



Mat drills - Day 2 (Monday, February 14)



On Monday you told us because of a problem at one station you had to go in for "early mats" on Wednesday at 5:00 a.m. How did that go?



It was alright. I had to wake up around 4:00 this morning. I went down there and did a few stations. It wasn't too long, it was about six minutes a station and that was about it. It was basically the same thing as Monday. You get more used to it. Once you get used to it, used to waking up that early, you are alright.



On the regular mat session:



We went out there and gave it our best. It's pretty much the same thing every day... You just have to adjust basically. Once you adjust, you are good. I figure by this time next week I should be good to go, for real.



Did you grade out better in day two of mat drills?



Well, actually I didn't. The earlier morning (session) kind of got to me. By the second session I was already hurting. We went through the second session and I ended up not grading too bad. I didn't get any zeros this time so I don't have to return at 5:00 in the morning this time (Friday).
