UGA visit leads to an offer for Commings
Another talented athlete in Georgia is emerging early in 2007. Sanders Commings is a talented prospect out of Westside High School in Augusta (Ga.). Two SEC programs have extended offers to Commings and one of them came Saturday in Athens.
"Georgia offered me on Saturday on Junior Day," said Commings. "The visit went well and everything is nice at Georgia. The offer kind of surprised me, but it was very nice."
Commings has visited Georgia a number of times before for games and camps, but he had a good time talking to the coaching staff this past weekend.
"I talked to the whole staff," he said. "I talked to Coach Willie Martinez and Coach Jon Fabris the most though. They talked to me about the Georgia program, how they have a lot of tradition, and just the basic stuff. One thing they told me about that stood out was the Dawg Walk. They said that was a very exciting thing before the games."
This 6-foot-2, 195-pound athlete said he has kept a close eye on one of the Bulldog greats.
"I have always liked Champ Bailey. I grew up watching him at Georgia and I try to pattern my game after him. I especially try to pattern my game after him on the defensive side. I play both ways like he did at Georgia too."
The Bulldogs aren't the only SEC school to offer Commings.
"Auburn was the first school to offer me and they offered on February 6," he said. "I am going over there for their Junior Day on March 3."
