Thompson blown away by Irish visit

For Everette Thompson, Notre Dame lived up to the hype.

The 6-foot-5, 230-pound athlete attended the Irish junior day last weekend, trekking cross-country from the Pacific Northwest to South Bend. The standout from Kennedy High School outside of Seattle figured his first Notre Dame visit would come with a side of tradition. But Thompson didn't expect a full helping of it.

"It was like a movie to me," Thompson said about the sites around campus. "Dang, they're not joking about Notre Dame."

Thompson was struck by Notre Dame Stadium, the locker rooms, the Guglielmino Center, Touchdown Jesus, the grotto, the Basilica and even the statue of Moses outside the library. In short, just about every landmark around campus made an impression. The speech by Charlie Weis to the nearly 40 juniors assembled for the recruiting event didn't hurt either.
