Sheffield determined to make an impact

There is an entertaining battle at the quarterback position this spring, but unlike years past this time around it is for the backup position. With much talk about redshirt freshman Taylor Potts progressing every day on the field, walk-on redshirt freshman Steven Sheffield is looking to out perform the former Abilene standout.

Sheffield graduated from Pflugerville in 2006 with Division-II scholarships from all over the country. The opportunity to play college football and have free room and board was there, but Sheffield didn't think twice about his final decision.

"Since I was little I've dreamed of playing division-I football and I've told everyone that's what I was going to do," Sheffield said confidently. "I'm doing it and I can't pass it up so I'm taking my shot. I've walked-on and now I'm going to earn a scholarship and produce."

This off-season Sheffield knew exactly what he wanted to focus on in order to get the production both he and the coaching staff would be looking for.

"I really focused on 7-on-7 and tried a lot of different ways to gain weight because that's my biggest thing right now. I'm trying to get to a legit weight."
